Be an explorer this half-term
Have you ever imagined travelling the savage seas in search of fortune and riches? Or maybe you’ve dreamt of becoming an intrepid explorer, surviving alone in the wild, searching for hidden civilisations or new species in faraway lands?
Long lost treasures may be the stuff of films and legend but you’re invited to become a real-life explorer or treasure hunter at Betteshanger this half-term.
We can’t promise you’ll find a stash of gold bullion buried in the coal spoil but if you’re searching for adventure, look no further than our activity packed half-term week:
Saturday 10th – Sunday 18th February (10.30am – 3pm)
Put your tracking skills to the test this half-term and hunt for the sixteen picture clues hidden around the Park. Take a quick photo of each item, check everything off your list and claim your prize.
The Scavenger Hunt will take you across the Park, including exclusive access to the challenging MY/PT military-style obstacle course. Indiana Jones managed to scale water jumps, rope swings and balance beams whilst keeping a watchful eye out for clues – can you?
£6 per child, £8 per adult and £20 for a family ticket (2 adults / 2 children or 1 adult / 3 children). Children under 16 need to be accompanied by at least one paying adult.
Collect your guide sheet and receive a short briefing at the Visitor Centre on arrival.
Really Wild Wooders mini-survival days
Calling all budding mini Ray Mears’ and Megan Hine’s! Join one of our Really Wild Wooders Survival Days this half-term and you’ll learn new and exciting survival and bushcraft skills, ranging from fire lighting to animal tracking. You’ll also face lots of different challenges where you’ll have to use logic and tactics to get through.
Tuesday 13th February: Natures resources
During this session you’ll learn how to use nature to your advantage. Use tools to construct natural resources and understand the importance of camouflage. You’ll get to create our own camouflage to evade the other team on a group challenge.
Wednesday 14th February: Protection from the elements
On this survival day you’ll learn to how to make a natural shelter that provides a safe place in open environmental conditions. You’ll use natural bedding and insulation, understanding how to take care of yourself and protect your clothing, perfect erecting a tarp to protect against the elements and hone knot tying skills.
Thursday 15th February: Fire lighting and campfire cooking
During this session you’ll learn how to construct a campfire and how to maintain it. You’ll light a fire using a flint and steel plus you’ll make and cook tasty campfire snacks.
£25 per day which includes all activities, equipment, snacks and hot drinks. Additional siblings can be booked for £20 each. Suitable for children aged 8+. Please note lunch is not included, each child should bring a packed lunch.
