New for 2019
New Visitor Centre
Our new Visitor Centre, opening in 2019, will provide an iconic welcome to the Park offering a fully accessible, state-of-the-art, year-round sustainable venue for group visits and leisure activities. The new onsite restaurant will serve local and seasonal food.
Kent Mining Museum
Housed within our new Visitor Centre, Kent Mining Museum will tell the unique and largely unknown story of the Kent coalfield. It will celebrate and preserve Kent’s coal mining heritage, telling the stories of the coal mining communities and the impact of coal mining and its demise.
A fascinating and nationally significant collection of objects, archives and people’s memories, will be brought together. Social history will be at the heart of the museum; telling the stories of the people who worked in Kent’s mines and their communities. Brought to life through innovative exhibition and interpretative design, Kent’s coal mining heritage will be accessible both in the building and through the wider Park.
The Museum will make the connections between energy old and energy new – inspiring people to realise the impact of fossil fuels and the potential of green sustainable technologies.
A showcase for green technology
The creation of green energy and the technology used to develop and manage it will also be housed within the new Visitor Centre. The Green Energy Centre will be fully accessible for group visits. Visitors will be able to see it, engage with it and learn from it.
