If you’re a fan of treasure hunts, you’ll love discovering Betteshanger through orienteering and geocaching.
Embark on a special adventure through the Park as you walk or run one of our four orienteering courses. Orienteering is an exciting outdoor sport that provides a mental and physical challenge.
Plan the route which you think enables you to finish as quickly as possible and navigate, in sequence, between the markers (controls) using our special orienteering map (available from Bike Hire).
Think of it as an advanced treasure hunt or a cross-country race – you decide the pace.
You’ll develop skills of map reading, compass use, terrain observation and distance estimation and, above all, you’ll get to improve your fitness and enjoy the fresh air.
Orienteering is a self-led activity and open to all ages, although prior knowledge of orienteering or map reading is an advantage. Orienteering can be done individually, in pairs, as a family and it also works brilliantly for a group activity – the level of competitiveness is up to you!
Our course is mapped and designed in association with Saxons Orienteering Club. For more information about orienteering in Kent visit www.saxons-oc.org
Who needs to sail the seven seas searching for buried treasure? Keep your feet on dry land and geocache at Betteshanger.
Geocaching is the ultimate treasure hunt - in high tech! You’ll use a handheld GPS receiver to navigate to the multiple ‘cache’ (treasure) locations around Betteshanger before you return to base with your hoard.
Get out and enjoy the outdoors, take in some exercise and explore new environments. Geocaching is fun for all ages, combining outdoor play with team building and problem solving.
It's just £5 for a 4 cache route (this will take about 45 mins - 1 hour). Collect your kit from Bike Hire.
We also organise a number of activity days throughout the year, which include geocaching. Our school holiday club, Betteshanger Basecamp, features geocaching. Check out our events page for dates of the next sessions.
