If you’re a fan of treasure hunts, you’ll love discovering Betteshanger through orienteering.
Embark on a special adventure through the Park as you walk or run one of our four orienteering courses. Orienteering is an exciting outdoor sport that provides a mental and physical challenge.
Plan the route which you think enables you to finish as quickly as possible and navigate, in sequence, between the markers (controls) using our special orienteering map (available from Bike Hire).
Think of it as an advanced treasure hunt or a cross-country race – you decide the pace.
You’ll develop skills of map reading, compass use, terrain observation and distance estimation and, above all, you’ll get to improve your fitness and enjoy the fresh air.
Orienteering is a self-led activity and open to all ages, although prior knowledge of orienteering or map reading is an advantage. Orienteering can be done individually, in pairs, as a family and it also works brilliantly for a group activity – the level of competitiveness is up to you!
Our course is mapped and designed in association with Saxons Orienteering Club. For more information about orienteering in Kent visit www.saxons-oc.org
There’s no need to book, just pick up your map from Cycle Hire (£2 per map).
